Make the most of low-cost airlines flying into Poland's Baltic
port city of Gdansk. This makes an interesting trip, as Gdansk
and Kaliningrad once boasted similar Hanseatic architecture
and prosperity. Today Gdansk is well preserved, with an attractive
old town and port area. Kaliningrad on the other hand, suffered
severe bombing during WWII losing the beautiful streets where
Immanuel Kant once strolled. Modern history saw it developed
under the Soviets, who indulged more in concrete megoliths than
attractive detailed facades. A real contrast of how history
has shaped two once similar cities.
