Vilnius is a charming city, the vibrant centre of Lithuania which is managing to retain its character and traditions even as it develops and grows. Of course all Lithuanians love Vilnius, who can't, but a large part of the Lithuanian soul lies in the countryside and any opportunity to escape to the country is welcomed by the locals. That is why we highly recommend you venture out of town and get back to nature in Lithuania.

One of our favourite places to relax and unwind is north of Vilnius in the Labanoras and Aukstaitija national parks. We have some excellent hotels, chalets and cottages in the region offering a comfortable stay in great locations.

Driving in the region is easy, and we recommend you hire a car so you have the flexibility to explore the region to suit you. This means you can really get off the beaten track.

Aukstaitija is characterised by undulating landscape with many lakes and quaint ethnographic villages. There are swimming, watersports, hiking, and cycling possibilities and many interesting sights to see:
• Visit small quaint ethnographic villages with old wooden houses, and the watermill in Ginuciai
• Beekeeping museum – here you can learn all about past and present beekeeping in Lithuania
• Enjoy a traditional pub where you can taste the traditional meals of Lithuania
• Go mushroom or berry picking in the forests
• Gaze at the stars at the Moletai observatory
