"Latvia
was fantastic. The hotel was very good and really quiet but
very convenient for the centre of Riga. Riga was lovely and
we had a really good look around. The outdoor museum was excellent
and really interesting. The Opera well.... I couldn't believe
it. The production was stunning and so creative. The best
entertainment ever for £5.00
Thank you so much for organising the trip so well. It was
excellent and we were all very happy customers." Mrs
Worsley, May 07
Latvia
is a blend of Baltic nature and cultural traditions where Russian
influence is more obvious than in her fellow Baltic States.
Riga, the vibrant capital city, often called the Paris of the
north thanks to its architecture and lively cultural scene,
is a perfect city break
destination.
Only 20 minutes train ride from Riga is the seaside resort of
Jurmala, characterised by old wooden summer houses, pine trees,
clean sandy beaches and first class spa hotels. This place has
come a long way from the days when Brezhnev and his cronies
holidayed here. A spa
break in Jurmala will soon have you feeling
a million dollars for only a few dollars outlay.
Like its neighbours Lithuania and Estonia, Latvia is a nation
of countryside retreat-seekers and our selection of high standard,
well located cottages and guesthouses provide the ideal place
for those seeking time-out in a country
cottage. Enjoy the Gauja National Park or the
unspoilt miles of sandy Baltic beaches, swim in the clear blue-green
sea which in winter-time becomes a surreal landscape of frozen
waves, huge drifts of dune-like sea at the edge of snow covered
sand. With the wide range of activities available, and excellent
value for money, Latvia is the ideal place to spend your summer
family holiday.
Throughout the Latvian countryside are scattered
many lovingly restored castles
and manor houses where
you can stay and savour the delights formerly only available
to the Latvian aristocracy. Spend a special evening in a beautiful
manor, or extend your tour visiting a selection of the best
residences across Latvia.
A
self-drive
trip to the main sights of Latvia, with a pre-planned route
and pre-booked accommodation, enables you to see the sights
and observe Latvian daily life. A relaxing way to get off the
beaten track and see what you want to see. We are happy to recommend
itineraries, from Riga taking in the Gauja national park with
its activities, nature and castles, to the fabulous Rastrelli
designed Rundale Palace, across to the Baltic coast and its
blue flag beaches, and further into Estonia or Lithuania if
you wish.
If you want more, or a combination of all that Latvia offers,
we have the most experienced Baltic tailor-madedepartment in the UK ready to help you plan your
holiday.
Memories
of Latvia...
walking on the frozen sea, climbing on the frozen waves,
pine trees and sandy beaches, refreshing raspberry water,
cafe culture of Old Riga, the haunting experience of
the occupation museum, a fuller understanding of the
history that has shaped this country, sunset from the
skybar, the hustle and bustle of the market in the old
hangars, autumn leaves in the national park, exploring
beautiful old castles and palaces, night time walk in
the grounds of the manor house hotel in the snow, troika
ride on the frozen lake, outdoor jacuzzis, being the
only foreigner in town, mushroom pickers in the silent
forests, chunky old train ride to Jurmala, the fortress
at Daugavpils... fond memories of a great place.
