A
great introductory visit to Belarus, a five night break that
combines a city break in Minsk with a stay in the rural heart
of Belarus. Discover two strong images of Belarus; the Soviet-style
city of Minsk and contrasting traditional rural life in the
Belarusian countryside.
After
three nights staying in a central hotel in Minsk you will be
acquainted with city life and starting to get a feel for this
small nation, its past and present situation. After witnessing
the Soviet legacy of Stalinist architecture, the horrors displayed
in the Great Patriotic War museum, and the modern day emergence
of cafes, youth culture and an air of optimism, you will have
an understanding of where this country is going.
But whilst the city continues to develop, rural Belarus is somewhat
suspended in time. Subsistance farming, rickety wooden cottages,
horses and carts, manual farming methods, orchards and vegetable
patches abound, and water is drawn from wells... could this
be the tranquil idyl that we hark back to, before mobile phones
and electronic gadgets invaded..?
Rest
assured that our country guesthouse, an authentic Belarusian
home and run by our hospitable local hosts, is a comfortable,
well equipped modern house with all mod-cons and facilities
(although you can sleep in the hayloft if you choose!) Here
you have the ideal base from which to explore the area. Your
hosts will be happy to organise activities such as rafting or
horse & cart rides, or excursions to nearby Lida castle
or the WWII pillboxes.
After your taste of rural life in Belarus, it's back to Minsk
airport for your flight home, and we are sure you will be planning
your return visit to see more of this up and coming country.
